This is the funniest piece I have ever seen at any of the 13 fringes I have attended. Heck, it's in the top five of the funniest plays I have seen in nearly half a century of theatre-going. - Janet Coutts, Montreal.com
Few have asked the question. “Who is Chris “Hilarious” Gibbs?” But, now, if they do, you’ll be able to tell them. Chris’s creative genius was obvious from an early age. “Christopher’s written work shows a good understanding of grammar and a sense of humour” said Miss Mills, his primary school teacher at the age of seven years. His comedic genius was even recognised when he took part in a martial arts demonstration at the age of sixteen. “Chris Gibbs was single-handedly responsible for turning the Hine Institute Kung Fu team’s piece into a comedic slap-stick farce … I hope he’s OK.” ? Combat Magazine, UK
And so it was that he embarked on a career as a street performer, learning his craft as he went, but, and I want to make this absolutely clear, never juggling or riding a unicycle. He first came to Canada in 1995 as one half of the critically acclaimed comedy duo ‘HOOPAL’. (“Don’t miss this one: it's the fastest, most madcap, most endearing 70 minutes you'll experience at the Fringe.” ? Robert Enright, CBC). HOOPAL also toured festivals in Europe and Australasia, winning numerous awards including the prestigious “I Laughed So Hard I Damaged My Intercostal Muscles” Award for best comedy at the Wellington Fringe.
Chris moved to Canada in the summer of 2002 and immediately toured his first solo show, GIBBERISH. The show played to packed houses, received rave reviews (“Gibberish is comic genius” Edmonton Sun), and won the “Best of the Fest Showcase Award” at the Winnipeg fringe.
